Have you ever been working towards a goal and been discouraged by many setbacks? Believe me, I’ve been there. I was actually there last week. A few weeks before that, I felt the melancholy setting in. I knew that I had to do something and went to what I know best in these situations – books. I had bought The Magic of Thinking Big a month ago. I didn’t start reading it until just two weeks ago. In just a few chapters, I was getting the wake-up call I needed.
It’s easy to revert back to old ways of thinking when times get tough. The thing to remember is that we let go of those beliefs for a reason. They were no longer serving us, so why are we going back to them? Instead of hiding under the covers, I decided that I was going to stay focused on what I was working towards. I was not ready to give up.
Focusing on what I wanted, and why I wanted it helped me to stay on course on not go back to negative ways of thinking. This focus allowed me to keep my eyes open to amazing opportunities and attract others that are going to help me to get closer to achieving my goals. These kinds of things have happened to me in the past, and I believe that their timing is all about the universe giving us signs.
I believe that when we commit to our goals, when we decide that setbacks won’t stop us, the universe works with us to make things happen. These things don’t happen because we sit at home and mope about the crappy things that happen in our lives. They happen because we take action. We realize opportunity when it is offered to us because we are focused on what we want, not on what’s not working.
Hard work pays off. Persistence pays off. There’s no such thing as an overnight success. We’ve heard all this before. We may even think that it’s all a bunch of clichés, but I know that it’s more than that. It’s the truth. We can’t allow the challenges and obstacles that we face along the way to take us off track. We need to focus on the destination and be prepared to take alternate routes. Be open to help, and don’t be afraid to ask for it either.
Achieving our goals is about making a choice – are you will to change in order to achieve your goals, or are you willing to give up on your goals and remain the same? The choice is yours!
