We’re heading into the second half of the year. They say time flies when you’re having fun – to be honest I think it goes by quickly whether you’re enjoying it or not! It may be tempting to think that if you haven’t done anything with your goals by now, there’s no point in getting started now. The good news is that it’s never too late to start working on your goals if you’re really committed to making them happen.
Here’s the thing to ask yourself: “if not now, then when?” What are you waiting for to get started? It’s time to get really honest with yourself. How long has this goal been on your “wish list”? How long have you been talking about doing something about this goal without actually taking action? How many excuses have you made for why you can’t do something, anything that will help you get closer to realizing your dreams?
People often laugh when I introduce myself as a recovering control freak and excuse maker. Many have admitted it’s because they can relate. Take it from me, I know all about excuses and overthinking the hell out of ideas and opportunities. Believe me when I say, this doesn’t serve us in any way and doesn’t inspire the action necessary to make our goals a reality. Let’s be honest about the issue of overthinking – it’s caused by a lack of faith and a lack of clarity about what we really want and why we really want it.
If you don’t want to be in the same spot next year, lamenting about what you said you’d do and still haven’t done yet, it’s time to get serious about your goals. If you know what you want, do you have a plan to get you there? If have a plan but haven’t taken action on it, what are you waiting for? Let go of the need for everything to be perfect. If you’re trying something new, the only person who will know it’s not perfect is you! Don’t worry about the critics and naysayers; most of them have unfulfilled dreams and regrets of their own to deal with. Don’t let them distract you from your goal.
I think the most important thing to remember is that we don’t have to wait for everything to be perfect; we just have to get started. Even when things may appear perfect, it doesn’t take long before we find areas that can be improved. Remember that everything we do is a work in progress. The key is to identify the lessons along the way and focus on consistent growth.
It’s not too late to make your goals a reality in 2016; you just have to want it bad enough! You don’t have to get it all done tomorrow, you just have to create a plan and take daily action towards its achievement. No more excuses and no more distractions. It’s time to get serious. Are you ready? ♥
