On Saturday I took the day off. That might not seem like a big deal, but I don’t remember the last time that I wasn’t doing “something”. Packing, unpacking, working in my business – it can feel like it never stops!
I had big plans for what my day was going to be like, and then none of it happened. We decided that we were going to take the day off. No posting on social media, no doing work on the laptop. No boxes were unpacked and no closets were organized. Did I have momentary feelings of guilt because there is so much to do? Absolutely!
I was tempted to do some work. Having a day where I don’t do anything is not normal for me since I became an entrepreneur. Throw renovations and a move into the mix and it seemed pretty close to mission impossible. Heck, we were cleaning and packing over Christmas and New Year’s!
The only work I did was in the kitchen. A girl’s gotta eat after all 😉 I managed to keep my hands off my laptop for the entire day. I bonded with my couch and caught up on some frivolous TV. I reminded myself that there’s nothing wrong with taking a day off. We all need it sometimes and pushing ourselves without taking the time we need, can work against us.
There’s nothing wrong with taking time out from the “to-do list”. Sometimes taking a break gives us the rest we need to attack the list with renewed energy and a clear mind. Our bodies and minds need a rest. We should never feel guilty about not running ourselves ragged and risking burnout. I know that I’ve pushed myself too far in the past and been forced to take a break because I’ve gotten sick!
One of my goals for this year is to prioritize self-care. It can be easy to get so caught up in the busy-ness of life that we forget to take time to recharge and refresh ourselves. I know that if I want to give my best in all areas of my life, I need to be at my best and that can’t happen if I’m not giving myself a break.
Sunday’s been a productive day where I got a lot done both at home and for my business. The next time my instincts tell me to take the day off, I won’t think twice! When was the last time you took a day off? ♥
