You might have noticed that my website got hacked last week. This guy had the nerve to send me on message on my Facebook Business Page notifying me that it had been done 🙁 This wasn’t the first time that it’s happened and in the past, it has been a distressing, frustrating experience. This time was different and I have Patricia Moreno to thank for that!
Before I realized what had happened with my site, I watched a live video that Patricia was doing on Instagram. She was sharing a mantra that she had adapted – No Big Deal. She was talking about things that used to drive her nuts and didn’t anymore because she realized they were no big deal in the great scheme of things. Talk about a timely message!
I decided to embrace the mantra as one of my own because it made total sense to me. Website hacked? No big deal! Making a big deal out of it wasn’t going to serve me in any way. I notified my webmaster and left it to him to get it straightened out. Constantly worrying about something that was completely out of my control was just going to get me worked up and frustrated. So instead of reacting the way I normally would, I just reminded myself that it was no big deal.
I have to admit using this mantra is really freeing! I think that we often allow things that are completely out of our control to affect our lives in extremely negative ways. Someone doesn’t like you? No big deal! You didn’t get the job you wanted? No big deal! At the end of the day, is making a big deal out of these things going to change the fact that they happened? Absolutely not!
Instead of focusing our time and energy on things that are out of our control, we need to focus on the things that are within our control and remember that everything happens for a reason. For me, this recent hack tells me I need to step up the security on my site, so I’m working on getting an https domain. When undesirable things happen, instead of stressing about it and getting all worked up, we need to focus on what we can do to fix it as well as what we can do to avoid it from happening in the future.
Some things will always be out of our control. There’s nothing we can do about anything other than our thoughts and actions. Even when we thing we’ve made a mistake we have to remind ourselves that it’s no big deal. We learn the lesson and move on. It’s not the end of the world. As long as no one was hurt in the process, it really is NO BIG DEAL.
Try using the mantra for the week and let me know how it works out for you! ♥
